Upcycling not only benefits the environment but also is a creative way to transform unused items into one-of-a-kind items.
Think twice before discarding unwanted items. It could be turned into a new life for yourself or your beloved!
"It's wonderful to give something old a new life."
This vest was handmade in 2017. I loved to wear it during winter for its comfortable touch. It ended up turning into a hammock for my sister-in-law's new family member, kitten Yuki, in 2021.
As wool is breathable and a natural insulator, the 2-sided hammock safeguards Yuki from the chill in winters. While the other side of it is lined with a piece of denim which gives a cooler touch during summers.
For the back of this ambigram, I upcycled a piece of an oversized jacket I originally made for myself. Thw soft tones and simple patterns add a subtle touch to the piece. This ambigram was designed by a Taiwanese designer, Mr. 馬賽 Kyo, who kindly granted me consent to use it as a special gift for my friends before they move away. Wishing them a wonderful life wherever they live.
Have you ever accidentally shrunk a wool sweater in the wash? I once planned to make a jacket for myself, but unfortunately, it shrank too much and ended up as a size XXXS !! (well, I am size M) lol.....
To salvage, I cut out the sleeves and body of the jacket. With a blend of function and creativity, I transformed the front and back into leg warmers. For arm warmers, I simply cut a hole in the sleeves for my thumb to pass through. A mistake became a stylish, cozy accessary - proving that creativity can turn setbacks into something special. Just like in life!
